The Fernery
the Original Fernery Fairy
the Original Fernery Fairy
Back in September 2019 – feeling a little frazzled by the efforts of getting our children back to school in one piece and simultaneously trying to design and launch my Christmas Collection – I posted a flippant sketch on instagram of one of my Fernery Fairies in Jeans and a stripy tee rather than her usual tutu, with a comment about Mums being the Fairies that hold everything together. It sparked an idea and, even though almost everyone told me that Fairies didn’t wear jeans and I should keep them in their tutus, I knew I had started something that I wouldn't be able to leave alone...
My bookbands were designed out of necessity, as I am someone who regularly thinks I can manage a few pages of my book before I fall asleep, and this more often than not ends up with my husband peeling my book (and glasses) off my face an hour later... I got tired of losing my page, so something had to be done!
The band stretches perfectly around most books, so even if you're reading a big fat hardback it will keep your place for you. These are also perfect if you use a paper diary or planner for work.
Using my 'Fairy Picker' tool, you can build up a gorgeous image of exactly what your fairy will look like, changing her skin tone, outfit, hair colour and style, adding glasses if you like, and picking her accessories too. This is a clever tool that helps you to visusalise your fairy, but there are also photos on each listing showing you real versions of my fairies, so you can see just how gorgeous they are in real life too!
My Fairies stand at approximately 9.5cm tall and 4.5cm wide, and are made to order in your choice of hair colours and diverse skin tones. When you're all settled on how she should look, i'll cut the components from fabric and stitch her up in my studio for you - whether you want her made as a decoration, bookband or something else, I can make it happen.
